I have never read the books, so i did not really know much going into the movie. I thought it was very enjoyable and entertaining. However I would not reccomend this movie for younger kids, i think this movie even though it was rated pg was borderline PG and PG13. Some of the monsters and violence might scare younger kids. Overall I enjoyed this movie a lot. And might buy the DVD. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/2/2010A review of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by glouwee I did not have high expectations in fact I did not have any as this was not a movie I had planned to go and see.
That said, I enjoyed it and it was certainly entertaining. Although at times you knew where the story was headed (there are many nods to the myths and stories we already know) it still kept my interest. I would have no problem bringing a child to see it...depending upon the kid as always. I think 8 years and up is fine, again depending upon the kid. There were some sexual innuendos but I found the "bedroom scene" in Transformers 2 worse than anything here. The story was very fast and by the end you get the information you need and the story has been neatly laid out. If you have some time to kill and just want to be entertained (with the knowledge that this is a PG movie) it may be one that would interest you. If you have a young person who is "into" super heroes, super powers and battling good vs evil you may want to bring them along. Who knows, it may spark their interest in mythology...not such a bad thing and there are some great stories well worth reading to feed that spark. Was this review helpful? Far too many scary scenes had my 8 year old daughter looking away most of the time, and hasn't slept well in a week because of it. Had we known, we would have never taken her. This is targeted to 11-15 year old boys. Several sexual suggestions were made throughout as well. We were quite disappoited that they promote this as a family move for all, since that is hardly the case. Was this review helpful? I found it boring and a waste of money. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/21/2010A review of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by omarali85 To be honest, this is not the best spin-off of Greek mythology I'd ever seen in ages. I enjoyed Master Of Olympus and the Nelvana's cartoon a lot more. "The Lightning Thief" seemed to be a promising film, with some potentials. But, I had some problems with it. First, in the beginning, when Zeus and Posiedon had a brief meeting, this scene failed to catch my interest at all. In fact, Zeus didn't even look like Zeus either, and looked rather young! Secondly, the film felt a lil bit common and predictable, like any other movies. I'm not sure about the whole wild goose chase over three perils and a lightening, if this makes sense at all. On the other hand, I can't really do any more analyses here, since I understand that there is actually the book version of this movie. And finally, we got to see Mt. Olympics at the end. I was really disappointed seeing it. Mt. Olympics didn't look so much like Mt. Olympics being protrayed in other media, and its occupants should have been played by actual Greek actors and actresses. These guys actually looked American. No effort in speaking the Greek language either. Long story short: The film was okay, but no so much Greek flavor among the film's Mt. Olympics occupants, predictable story, and could have been better. Otherwise, it's an o.k. film to watch with the family, I guess... at home, at least. Was this review helpful? I enjoyed it just as much as they did! It was an awesome movie! I do agree that it might should have been rated PG-13. I think it would scare the younger crowd. - - - We have not read the books, so can't compare. But, the movie is definitely worth seeing!! Can't wait til it comes out to rent! Was this review helpful? The plot is reworked and the story basically rewritten. It's a shame they couldn't even keep the villain behind the theft even apart of the tale. Instead the screenwritter tried to change the theme into "poor me, I'm a demigod with an absent parent". Don't waste your money on this one. Was this review helpful?
