Please - they fell in love after two weeks - promised to meet in a year when he was done his hitch - 9/11 happened - he had a call to duty because the rest of his company decided to reup - she was disappointed he didn't decided to stay with her - she send him a Dear John letter and marries a man she felt sorry for and felt obligated to raise his autistic son - her husband dies - they get back together. What a crock. Sorry I wasted my time and money. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Plot A: It caught my attention and pulled me in but by the end I found her annoying to say the least. This theme: military duty vs. love has been done before and better than portrayed here by the female lead. I don't know if they just did not give us enough of her story but what they offered as an explanation at the end was to weak to make me feel for the character. I should have been crying for what she had sacrificed when she wrote that Dear John letter instead I was just annoyed. It was predictable and uninspiring writing. Plot B: seemed like it was going to go nowhere and this ended up actually holding my attention and drawing out my emotions. Both actors were fantastic and the story of this father and son was so well written and acted a whole world opened up i was not expecting. Numerous of the scenes between father and son brought me to tears (were not single scene between the romantic couple even came close). Channing Tatum was fantastic in this movie he truly carried his weight. The gentleman who played his father (names eludes me right now although I just saw him in The Visitor) also did a great job. So I guess in the end it was not terrible although I expected more. Not sure I would recommend this movie. Was this review helpful? Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This was a very well-written movie and I believed the casting was excellent. The only issue I saw with this movie was the ending. They could have expanded more on it. For myself as a viewer, the ending left me wondering what could happen next. Overall, though, it was a very good movie. Was this review helpful? The story was good but it hard to hear many of the actors. Other than the sound we would recommend the movie.

Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 2/14/2010A review of Dear John by Movie_Buff8 I thought the trailor looked much better than the actual movie. I was quite disappointed, people were saying it was suppose to be right up there with The Notebook. In my opinion, it was not even comparable to The Notebook. Dear John was not the worst movie I have seen, but I will not be purchasing this movie. Was this review helpful? I wasn't impressed or satisfied at all. But i guess overall the movie was alright. Was this review helpful? After reading the book I was not sure I wanted to see the movie but I am glad I did. I took my mom for her birthday on Saturday and it was a great mother/daughter film. I am so glad I saw it! The blowback for crap like Twilight & New Moon and that kind of genre. When will it end ! ! !? ? ? Was this review helpful? Sign in 0 out of 1 users found this helpful If you have read the book don't expect the movie to follow the interactions between the characters. The film is too short to get into details therefore does not show the changes between father and son or the insecurities of Savannah . Tim and Alan are brothers in the book not father and son. The movie hints Savannah is a home wrecker. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This movie was so good. I cried at the part when Savvanah sends her last letter, and again when John's dad dies. I though Luke Benward did a good job as the autistic kid, and that the fact they filmed some at Charleston is just amazing! I live near there. Was this review helpful?
